Lit. Poems

"Explosions and Accordions"

Explosion
Clamorous lethal
Obliterating killing flashing
Fiery destructive pleasing squeezebox
Shrinking collapsing breathing
Audible harmless
Implosion.

"Rudy Steiner"

Rudy
Determined, athletic, bold
Who loves his best friends Liesel.
Who feels excitement about the war.
Who needs the love and encouragement of Liesel.
Who shares his stubborness with everyone.
Who fears the lose of a loved one
Who'd like to see a kitchen full of food.
Who dreams of being the great Jessie Owens.
Who ends up dead in a devastating bombing.

Aquarium

On our trip to the aquarium we experienced touch tanks and were able to observe animals. In the one touch tank we went to I was able to touch a shark which i found to be the most interesting part of the trip. I enjoyed this because I was able to interact with the animal instead of just observing them. Also while observing I found it interesting when observing all of the fishes behavior. For example, all of the sharks were extremely active while some other fish such a stingrays were either very slow or lay doormat on the bottom. Some animals like the Hippos were not much fun to be with both because they simply spent all of their time sleeping and smelled really bad. Another favorite animal was the seals and penguins. Although the penguins didn't move much they were intresting since unlike Antarctica these ones were used to warm weather. The seals on the other hand were very active and constantly leaping through the top of the water. I enjoyed this trip very much and found there were numerous animals to observe and touch. In conclusion I wouldn't mind visting this aquarium again and it is packed with intresting animal, fish, jellyfish and much more.

Ancient Rock Spheres

Recently in Costa Rica large rocks which were in the exact shapes of spheres were hot topics in science news. John Hoopes an anthropologist has been researching them because he is an expert on ancient culture in central and south America. These spheres were discovered in the early 1900's but it was not until around the 1930's were these mysterious rocks were importantly thought of. They were found when a company began clearing the forests for banana growing.

Until then some of these massive spheres are as heavy as 16 tons and about 300 have been discovered. Scientist believe that they were created around 600 A.D. Unfortunately it is unclear to whom made these formations and what they were used for. I believe that these may just seem like rock but they are extremely significant and should be preserved because it would take some what high tech tools and a long period of time to create such large and perfectly circular spheres. Without further knowledge we cannot get many more facts on these mysteries but we can always create theories and look toward science to help us with this discovery.

Research project

Recently, our unit has been working on a research project where we take notes and write a five paragraph essay on our chosen topic. Of the five topics given to us, I chose global warming because I found it to be quite interesting due to the fact it is such a problem world wide. While researching I found out that global warming impacts more than just the polar ice caps. Droughts, extreme flooding and glacier depletion are other effects. Extreme droughts caused by heat waves dries up crops which further results in food loss and ruined soil. This makes farming difficult for farmers physically and economically. Also, in Bolivia the largest ski slop, Chacalytayna is home to the Andean glacier. This glacier supplies almost ONE BILLION people with drinking water and researchers from Ohio State University calculated it has decreased 25% in size. by the year 2035 it may be gone (36-37 Kowalski)!!! Next, From Florida to Maine the east coast has thousands of beaches and just south of Florida there is the stunning Florida Keys. unfortunately, due to polar ice caps melting, the ocean level will drastically rise and the keys and all of our beach will be underwater. Negative effects like these few and future effects show that our earth is slowly dieing unless we change our ways and burn less greenhouse gases. In conclusion, global warmings impact is felt world wide but it is up to us to try to stop it in order for a better future.

Chronic Illnesses

Chronic illnesses affect millions of people and there are thousands of illnesses out there. Things like lung cancer and black lung have long lasting affects and harm the people who are diagnosed with it. Other illnesses like genetic ones are passed down from your parents. No matter what the illnesses is, there is always worry. Woman are most afraid of chronic illness. About 70% of all people diagnosed with rheumatism are woman and then there is also worry for long lasting illnesses such as Alzheimer's. In my opinion chronic illness is a terrible no matter what disease due to its long lasting affects. Hopefully, there will be cures in the future for these types of diseases. I think that this topic should be looked at more by scientists. I have seen what these affects can do be cause my grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when i was young and pasted away about two years later. In conclusion, these diseases are fatal and caused pain to many and will hopefully be taken in to great consideration in the future.
